As we approach our seventh anniversary this fall, the work of Black Veterans Project is becoming ever more critical. Our nation faces an unprecedented political crisis, with a full-throttle attack on decades of racial progress unraveling at lightning speed.

The shuttering of diversity, equity, and inclusion programs across the Department of Defense and Veterans Affairs, as well as nefarious attempts at historical erasure and overt discrimination disguised through executive orders, collectively call for a renewed strategy and new leadership models from progressive organizations that serve the common good.

To ensure BVP’s efforts scale appropriately to meet this historic moment, we are humbled to introduce Kyle Bibby as BVP’s new Co-CEO.

Many of our closest allies remember Kyle from BVP’s inception, where he served as our inaugural Executive Director and Co-Founder during BVP’s first year in operation.

After serving on BVP’s Board of Directors in 2024, Kyle is returning to BVP’s leadership team this Summer with an even greater passion for our mission.

For those unfamiliar, Kyle is a decorated former Marine Corps Infantry Captain, an Afghanistan War veteran, and a Naval Academy graduate (class of 2007). He most recently served as the Chief of Campaigns at Color of Change and has held previous roles as the National Campaigns Manager at Common Defense and as a Political Partner with the Truman National Security Project.

As we collectively face growing threats to our democracy, Kyle will lead the future of our national advocacy campaigns, spearheading our organizing efforts. His expertise is crucial in growing the power of our movement and ensuring we achieve our mission for repair for Black veterans and their families.

"I'm honored to return as Co-CEO of Black Veterans Project at this critical moment. Having helped co-found BVP with Richard Brookshire, Zella Vanie and Daniele Anderson back in 2018, I've been proud to watch our research and movement building work expose the decades of discrimination Black veterans have faced, and the billions we know are owed to Black military families. In this moment where federal programs to protect veterans face unprecedented attacks, our mission is more urgent than ever. We will allow no one to erase the history of those who served with honor and valor. The fight for restitution ensures every veteran receives the benefits they've earned, regardless of race. We will protect the legacy." - Kyle Bibby, Co-CEO of Black Veterans Project
